Many people never think of what to do in the case of a natural disaster and other dangerous situations that can happen in the world.
In order to avoid accidents from happening, some common necessities are necessary items for your car. This article includes important items that everyone should have in their cars.
Becoming A Safe Driver
Your car should be a safe place, and you should take both car ownership and car driving seriously.
No amount of emergency gear can save you if you’re not driving to the best of your abilities.
Learning the simple rules of the road, like red lights mean stop and green lights mean go isn’t enough, sometimes you need to take road safety further and learn advanced driver safety by asking yourself questions like:
- Do I need defensive driving?
- What are safety zones in driving?
- Am I confident driving in the snow?
- What is the two-second rule?
Items to Include in Your Car Emergency Kit
Once you are a confident driver, it’s time to put that into practice and get out on the road, but not without the items in your emergency kit!
A Blanket
A blanket is necessary whatever the weather because it can be used for various reasons, such as keeping you warm in a cold-weather breakdown, putting a layer of protection on the floor if you need to get under the car, or even subtly covering up valuables.
Blankets don’t have to be big or thick; a simple fleece or woolen army blanket stashed under a seat will do.
A Flash Light
Carrying a flashlight in your car is a smart move due to the many times you will need to get under the vehicle when performing inspections or if a nighttime breakdown happens.
Hands-free flashlights are a lifesaver because they eliminate hazards caused by holding a flashlight while trying to work on a part. They usually have magnets on the back of them, so keeping them in place is super easy, and they can be clipped onto your belt too.
A First-Aid Kit (with basic supplies)
It’s a good idea to keep a first aid kit in your car because those unfortunate accidents do happen, and you never know if a cut will turn septic.
Stay on top of the little things, so they don’t turn into big problems down the road.
A Multi-Tool
You never know what can happen when you’re on the road, and if you have a multi-tool in your car with a knife, pliers, screwdriver, and numerous other tools at your disposal that can come in handy.
Battery Charger or Jumper Cables
When the weather gets colder, the battery in your car doesn’t work as well as it does in the summer months.
Carrying a jumper cable kit keeps you from breaking down somewhere cold and giving up a car to a towing company, but it will also make sure you aren’t stranded somewhere cold when your battery decides to stop working!
Water and Food
It isn’t a bad idea to keep a few snacks in your car.
Keep an unopened bottle of water in the car too, or better yet, a pack of small bottles of water for those unexpected traffic jams!
