The majority of people will have to wear vision correction eyewear at some point during their life and often for decades. We tend to think that means wearing glasses and that can be a big thing for a young person who is self-conscious, or an adult who’s never worn glasses before and doesn’t identify their personality and appearance with them. That’s why for many people contact lenses can be a good option when it comes to vision correction.
What Are the Advantages of Contact Lenses?
Whether for aesthetic reasons or other contact lenses can be the solution you need to correct your vision, where long sighted or near sighted. The obvious appeal of contact lenses is that they are not noticeable, usually only you will know you’re wearing them. While designer eyewear is trendy and many celebrities are seen sporting a cool pair of frames, for many of us we feel that we look bets without glasses.
If you’ve not worn glasses before and suddenly you’re told that you will need to, in correction of your vision, you may have concerns, and rightly so that glasses may feel uncomfortable on your face all the time, that your field of vision may be impaired by the frames, and that they will get in the way of many day to day activities, particularly active recreation and sports.
Another couple of issues with glasses that you don’t realize until you have them is that they can get dirty and greasy quite quickly so needs constant cleaning. And the second is that they are susceptible to weather and atmospheric conditions. Try wearing glasses when its raining heavily or when it is foggy. You end up having to remove your glasses for better vision. Or how about getting into your warm car after having walked briskly outside, suddenly your glasses steam up with the heat from your face and you can’t see until they’ve cleared.
In contrast contact lenses aren’t affected by weather, temperature, grease and dirt, impairing your field of vision or an uncomfortable feeling on your face. At first it might take awhile to get used to contact lenses because they will feel unusual on your eyes, and particularly when putting them in, it might take awhile before you get used to that. But after a few weeks it will be easy, and you won’t even notice you have them in, often having to remind yourself to take them out at night.
Contact lenses are particularly good for someone with an active lifestyle. Having enhanced vision when playing sport, or doing outdoor activities will not only help you enjoy the sport more but also make you safer and better at it. Eyewear doesn’t work well with most sports and activities, whereas contact lenses enhance rather than encumber your enjoyment of your leisure activities.
You may wonder if contact lenses can address bifocal or even trifocal eye conditions, as glasses can. With modern techniques contact lenses can easily be made for your specific prescription.
