It is that time of year again where we get back to a healthy lifestyle following the indulgences of the holiday season, and for some people that means finding a diet to stick to in order to lose a few pounds. Whilst there is of course absolutely nothing wrong with this, we have to recognize some of the potential issues and some of the possible dangers which you could face when you try a diet. Fitness guru Roger Wolfson and others have been speaking about this of late, and they have offered some pearls of wisdom to those who will be following diets.
Extremity
We all want to lose weight as quickly as possible but that is absolutely no reason for us to take on extreme diets which promise us the chance to trim pounds, fast. The first point to mention here is that when you do lose weight on these diets, because they are so far removed from a normal day of eating, the likelihood of you piling the pounds back on again is incredibly high. Extreme diets often result in 2 steps forward and 3 back in your weight loss journey.
Back on the Horse
If you slip up when you are trying to stick to the diet then you have to make sure that you just chalk it up to a mistake and then get back on it as soon as possible. What many of us are guilty of is cheating on the diet and then simply going back to an unhealthy way of living as a result. You are allowed slip-ups, they do happen, just make sure that you forget about them and move on.
Buddy Up
It is a very positive idea to try and buddy up with someone who is also taking this diet on. If you are able to do this then you can share ideas, thoughts, recipes and concerns with one another. Research has shown that those who do a diet with others, are significantly more likely to stick to the diet for longer, and reach their goals.
Measuring Yourself
Whatever you do, make sure that you do not solely focus on on weight when you are working on the diet. The reason for this is that you could very well turn 2 pounds of fat into 2 pounds of muscle and assume that you haven’t lost any weight at all. This is why it is very important that you also focus on your measurements, of your arms, chest and waist. Doing this will give you a far better idea of whether you are in fact losing weight or not.
And finally be sure to set yourself small milestones which are realistic. The size of the goal is not important here, what is important is that you are selecting something which is achievable and which will motivate you to continue. Stay strong, stay focused and keep working hard, you will be at your goal weight before you know it.
